EVENT FAQ/

How do I print your race schedule? Download and print a PDF version of the schedule, and always check our Event Schedule page for the latest information.

Where is Miller Motorsports Park? It is in Tooele County, Utah, just 30 minutes from Downtown Salt Lake City, between Tooele, Grantsville and Stansbury Park. The physical address is 2901 N. Sheep Lane, Tooele, UT 84074, and our phone number is +1 (435) 277-8000. Our website address is www.MillerMotorsportsPark.com.

Where are the nearest hotels? There are a limited number of hotels in Tooele. Download the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce Eat & Sleep Guide. Visit the Salt Lake Visitors Bureau for hotel reservations, dining information, and facts about Salt Lake City. Download a map of Salt Lake City Accommodations.

How long has MMP been open? How long did it take to build?  Ground-breaking took place on April 26, 2005 and we opened for our first track day event on April 1, 2006.

What kind of racing do you have there? Our big events include some of the most prestigious car and motorcycle racing series in the world: The American Le Mans Series, the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and the NASCAR Camping World Series West for cars, and the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship and AMA Superbike Championship for motorcycles. In addition we also host a variety of other professional and amateur racing series. We also have kart racing on our karting facility, as well as Supermoto motorcycle racing.

When do you have races?  Our racing season generally begins in April and runs through October. With very few exceptions, we have some sort of racing taking place every weekend during those months. Visit our website, www.MillerMotorsportsPark.com, to see our detailed schedule of events and information about those events.

Is the track designed to run clockwise or counter-clockwise?  The track is designed to run counter-clockwise. Because of safety considerations and the placement of protective barriers and walls/curbing, this is the only direction the main track can be run. The Miller Kart Track (karting), on the other hand, can be run in either direction.

How much are tickets? Tickets vary depending upon event but typically start at $5 and up for minor events and $25 and up for major event days. Contact our Welcome Center box office at 435-277-RACE (7223) for information relating to each event.

What access does my ticket give me? We have TWO types of tickets. Our Grandstand Tickets give you a seat in one of five grandstand complexes, which total over 8,000 seats (each of which gives at least a 95% view of the entire race course). For our major race weekends (American Le Mans Series, NASCAR and Grand-Am) except for the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event, our new policy for 2009 is anyone with a grandstand ticket can sit in any grandstand (first-come, first-seated). During the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event, grandstand ticket holders may sit in any seat in any grandstand on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship weekend, however, grandstand seats will be reserved for the ticket holder of that specific seat.

Our second, and less expensive, ticket is our General Admission Ticket, which allows you to sit or stand at the fence line that surrounds the track. You are welcome to bring your own folding chair, a pop-up tent, cushions or blankets, but please do not bring any form of scaffolding or home-built grandstand structure as our insurance requires that we not allow these on site. On minor or mid-level race weekends, General Admission may allow access to grandstands as well.

We also have Trackside Viewing and RV passes which allow you to reserve specific trackside areas to park your RV, car or truck in locations where you can watch from your vehicle, have a trackside picnic or even, for an additional fee, stay overnight. These passes MUST be purchased in advance.

What are the ticket prices for children? General Admission tickets are FREE for children 12 and under except for the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event (4 and under). Adults and children not sitting in an adult's lap can upgrade from a General Admission Ticket into a Grandstand Ticket for an extra $15 a day for the American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am events. Reserved seats for children at the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event are full price. (To make it easy for large families, we also have a FAMILY ticket which is the most economical ticket in sports for large families.) Contact our Welcome Center box office at 435-277-RACE (7223) for information.

Where do I pick up Will Call tickets? Enter through the Main Entrance off of Sheep Lane. Will Call is located in our Box Office located on the first floor of the Administration Building directly north of the Main Gate. The Welcome Center is open 9am-5pm seven days a week during racing season (April-October). The winter hours are 10am-4pm weekdays.

Do I have to have ID to pick up my tickets? Unless previously arranged, you must present a photo ID to claim tickets in Will Call.

Where do I pick up credentials/tickets if I am a guest of a team or crew member? For sanctioning bodies, credentials can be picked at the walk-up windows at the Welcome Center adjacent to the main gate. For credentials or passes issued by MMP, go to the walk-up windows at the Ticket Office. Registration hours will differ from event to event, but typically start earlier and end later than the general-public Will Call hours.

Do you ever sell out of tickets? No. We may sell out of grandstand tickets (8000 available), but we have so much space on our raised berms and in the trackside areas that we can accommodate even the largest crowds.

How are the grandstand seats and rows configured? Looking at the grandstand from the track, sections are labeled left to right (e.g., A to E) and row 1 is the top row.

How much can I see from the viewing areas? All spectators can see most of the track. MMP is designed with all spectators on the outside looking in, with most spectator areas elevated several feet above the track. We also have over 8,000 grandstand seats, located in five viewing areas, each called an "Oasis." Each grandstand has a large shade roof and offers upwards of 95% viewing of the entire track.

Do you have a photo pass or super photo pass available? Not at this time, but it is something we are working on. However, you may not need one; we have been called one of the most photo-friendly race tracks in the country by the professional motorsports photographers who travel from track to track. Even without a photo credential, the photography opportunities from our grandstands and raised berms are magnificent; just bring long lenses, because this is a biiiiig place!

MMP is a big facility - how do I get around? We have a number of shuttle vehicles that travel all around the site, stopping at each Oasis, at the Midway, at the Museum, at the Miller Kart Track and several locations in the paddock. Spectators are welcome to bring bicycles to cruise the site. Please do not bring four-wheelers, scooters or dirt bikes, because we don't allow these due to the safety hazard they present to other spectators. Parking is very close to the spectator areas, so you will never have to walk far to get to your seat.

Can I get close to the race cars and teams? Absolutely. We have the largest paddock (where the teams park) in the country, and access is free of charge to anyone who has a ticket to get into the event (except for the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event, for which a paddock pass is required). Most race drivers and riders are very friendly, and it's easy to get to see the stars and their cars and bikes up close.

What is the difference between "pit" and "paddock" passes? In road racing, a pit pass is a very special, limited-access credential that requires special insurance waivers to be signed and is really only for participants, media and officials; it is like being courtside during a Jazz game. The paddock pass is what other forms of racing call a pit pass, and gives everyone access to the area where the teams park, work on their cars and relax between races. Most tracks charge extra for this pass, but at MMP paddock passes are not necessary because paddock access is FREE to anyone who holds a ticket to get into the event (except for the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event).

How much does it cost to park at MMP? Nothing. Parking is always free at MMP.

Where do I park? We have over 50 acres of all-weather gravel parking, all of which is located within a few hundred feet of grandstands. Parking Lot B (20 acres) is outside the access fence between the Expo area and Sheep Lane on the East side of the track; the South Parking Lots are 23 acres in size, serving the Attitudes and Black Rock viewing areas; The Southwest lot (Momentum Mountain) is 9 acres in size; and the F parking lot behind the Grantsville stands is 7 acres. The A lot, which is reserved for VIP guests, teams and media, is 13 acres in size. We have over 900 acres of additional land available for large-event parking adjacent to Sheep Lane.

Is there parking close to where I am sitting?  During events, parking is available near most Grandstand and General Admission viewing areas. If you purchase your tickets in advance, you can enter the facility at the South Gate on Sheep Lane and park close to your grandstand. Additionally, people-moving shuttles run during large events to transport guests from the parking lots to several locations around the track.

Is the parking lot paved?  Most of the parking lots are not paved, but are surfaced with gravel, giving all-weather use. The Clubhouse and Paddock areas are the exceptions.

What happens if it rains? The racing gets more exciting and dramatic, and the fans get to see some incredible driving and racing! Unlike oval racing, where racing comes to a stop when the rain starts, one of the real skills in road racing is the driver's or rider's ability to cope with difficult track conditions, and it does not become much more difficult than racing in the rain. Cars and bikes simply change to special wet-weather tires and carry on racing. Racing is just as close as in the dry, but there is typically even more overtaking; spins and skids become part of the entertainment.

Are there bathroom facilities with flushing toilets?  Yes, clean bathroom facilities that are serviced regularly throughout every event are located throughout the facility. These are first-class, permanent buildings with flushing toilets and an area to wash your hands. We are VERY proud of our exceptional toilet facilities, the best in the racing world!

Are there showers available?  Yes, showers are available in the center of the paddock between the Ace Cafe and the Medical Center and in the Cafe Monza building at the west end of the paddock.

What time does the track open on race weekends?  This varies from race to race, but typically we open our gate at 8am and stay open right to the end of the day's activities. Competitors have access to the facility 24 hours a day.

Can I bring my pet to the track?  We do not have a formal No Pets rule because we know that some pets are very much part of the family and we are, after all, a family-fun facility, but we also need to recognize that pets and large crowds and speeding vehicles do not always go well together. We ask that any dogs always be on a leash or that they and other pets remain in your car, RV or camper during race activity. We also ask that you clean up after your pet.

Do you have camping at the track? Participants in the races, corner workers and officials are allowed to stay overnight during their events. We have RV parking and tailgate parking zones in the track complex where fans can stay overnight, and other spectators can camp at the Deseret Peak sports complex, a Tooele County-owned and -operated facility immediately adjacent to the track to the South. Deseret Peak has multiple facilities, including a swimming center, ball parks, a Fireman's Museum and a Motocross course.

Does MMP have RV hookups? Not in the public RV areas, at least not yet. We are still developing our amenities, so they will come sometime. But as our events are only a few days long, most RVs are capable of providing power without the need for outside connections. We suggest you carry a generator if your RV does not have one. We do have a dumping station which is accessible before and after race activities; just ask our Security at the Welcome Center and they will show you how to get to the dumping point.

Can we bring our own food and beverages into the facility? Yes, we do allow you to bring coolers but they are limited in size (12" x 9.5" x 9"). However, we sell good, well-priced food and beverages in our brand-new permanent cafeterias (the Ace Cafe, Cafe Monaco, Cafe Le Mans and Cafe Monza). We do sell beer on site, which means that you are not allowed to bring any alcohol through the gates. This is a Utah State Law which we are required to enforce, so we may have to look into coolers to carry out our licensing responsibilities.

Do you allow lawn chairs and canopies?  Lawn chairs, umbrellas, cushions, blankets, pop-up tents and canopies are encouraged in the General Admission viewing areas, however we cannot allow spectators to bring any form of scaffolding or home-built grandstand structure due to insurance requirements.

What happens at the track during the week? During most weeks, Monday through Thursday, the track is rented to various clients, including driving/riding schools, track-day operators, race teams who want to test, manufacturers who want to shoot commercials or take photography, or we utilize the track for our own driving school or Open Track Days. Unless it is a private, restricted activity, admission is FREE to EVERYONE on these days.

Do you rent golf carts? We have an arrangement with Highland Golf Carts (801-322-4653), who maintain a fleet of carts on site. However, these are reserved for participants, sponsors and persons with special needs. We do have a safety rule that no one under the age of 16 is allowed to drive golf carts (or any other powered vehicle) on site (unless they are racing go-karts, and that's another story!!).

Are tours of the facility available? Tours are available year-round. Simply call our Events Department at 435-277-RACE (7223) to make arrangements.

How do I get riders' or drivers' autographs? Easy, just walk up to them and ask, they hang out in the paddock where you can get right up to them.

What helpful hints can you offer first-time visitors? Both the main track and the kart track are located outdoors. For the most part, MMP visitors should expect the track to be hot, sunny and noisy. The track is extremely loud during the races, so we suggest you bring earplugs or you can purchase earplugs at the Welcome Center. Although MMP does provide some shade, be prepared for the sun. We encourage guests to bring an umbrella, cover your skin and/or use sun block, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and drink plenty of water. Pay attention to your body and be familiar with the symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Again, drink plenty of water!

MMP's paddock is 24 acres of pavement, so be prepared for plenty of walking and wear comfortable shoes. If given the opportunity to enter pit lane, you will need to dress accordingly. For safety purposes, you must be wearing closed-toed shoes and long pants and have your shoulders covered (no tank tops) to enter. If you do wear a tank top, be sure to carry another shirt to put over it.

Are check-cashing services available? No, this is not a service we can offer at this time.

Are there ATM machines at MMP? Yes, there are ATM machines located in the Box Office and at the Ace Cafe.

What food concessions are available? We have four cafeterias: the Ace Cafe located in the paddock, Cafe Monza at Turn 1 near the Grantsville Grandstands, Cafe Monaco at Oasis 5 near Tooele Turn and Cafe Le Mans in the midway area behind the Erda Grandstand at Oasis 6. On non-major-event weekends, the Club House is open to the general public. All of these venues serve great food that is a lot different (and much better) than is usually found at race tracks!

What merchandise concessions are available? We have a great retail shop located at the Miller Kart Track and we have mobile sales units that we take to different parts of the spectator areas during major events. We also host specialist retail units that travel from race to race with the different sanctioning bodies, so there is always something new to buy at every event.

Where are the vendor displays located? During major events, vendors will be set up in the Paddock. The only exception is the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship event, during which vendors will be located on the Midway, which is the big paved area on the southeastern corner of the property, stretching from Tooele Turn to Cafe Le Mans.

What is in the Museum? The Larry H. Miller Auto Museum contains part of Larry Miller's world-renowned collection of automobiles, artwork and memorabilia related to Carroll Shelby, the legendary American racer, manufacturer and team owner. These include Shelby Cobras, Shelby Mustangs and Ford GT40s, plus a few other special vehicles. The remainder of Larry's cars resides in the Carroll Shelby Museum in Boulder, CO. The cars rotate back and forth between facilities from time to time, so one visit to our museum will not be sufficient to see everything.

Are alcoholic beverages available at MMP? Yes, we have a beer license issued by the State of Utah. We have to follow all State alcohol rules, so we cannot allow any beer or alcohol to be brought onto the site because we are licensed premises.

What facilities are available if I have a medical problem? At large events, we staff several Spectator Medical facilities (see their location on the many large maps displayed around the site) to cope with minor injuries and emergencies. We have full-time ambulance service on site during these events, specifically catering to spectators. If you need medical assistance, just contact any of our staff or officials (anyone with a radio) or go into one of the ticket booths or Cafes and ask for help. We are closely affiliated with Mountain West Medical Center, which is located in Tooele just a few minutes from the track, so help is available very quickly for all kinds of emergency needs.

Is there a Lost and Found? Yes. Go to the Security Office in the Welcome Center at the main gate. We will do everything we can to reunite you with your lost property.

What happens if my child and I become separated? We will find you and take you back to your child. Remember, the child is never lost; it is the parent who goes astray! Seriously, anyone missing a child should contact any member of our staff who will call Security by radio or cell phone and we will immediately use all our resources to find your child.

What phone number do I call if I require emergency assistance? Call our Security Department at 435-277-8542.

What dining, lodging and entertainment facilities are available in the area? There are some neat restaurants (as well as a number of nationally-known fast-food eateries in Tooele and there is unlimited fine dining and food of all kinds in Salt Lake City, which is just 30 minutes away. Tooele has several hotels and motels; the airport has a large number of different-level hotels just 20 minutes away, and of course Salt Lake City has everything from The Grand America Hotel, a five-star facility, to almost every brand name of hotel you can imagine. RACING:

How can I go racing?  At Miller Motorsports Park, you have many options. To race on the main track, either in cars or on motorcycles, you will need to have a racing license. For karting and Supermoto, no license is required. To obtain a license to race cars, we recommend a course at our Ford Racing High Performance Driving School, but other schools are available, including from the Sports Car Club of America. To obtain a license to race motorcycles, contact the Utah Sport Bike Association at www.utahsba.com/racing. For more information, view the page for each series (links below). After that, all you need is a vehicle, helmet, appropriate clothing and money, not to mention a little bravery.

What is the MPRA?  The Miller Park Racing Association (MPRA) is an eight-round regional auto racing series created and sponsored by Miller Motorsports Park to build local and regional racing. Miller Motorsports Park has organized, sanctioned and subsidized the cost of racing in order to assist local and regional racers. A wide variety of classes is offered to appeal to both novices and experts, young (five years and older) and old.

What kind of kart racing do you do at Miller Motorsports Park? Miller Motorsports Park has developed two Kart Championship Series to encourage and develop kart racing in Utah and the surrounding region. Karting is not only the most popular method for young people to learn racing skills that will help them advance up the racing ladder, but also a great family-oriented recreational activity. Karters ranging in age from five to 65 compete for trophies and points in their respective classes towards the overall championships. The Icebreaker Kart Championship Series is a five-round series that runs from March through May, and the Utah Kart Championship Series is a 10-round series that runs from June through October.

Sanctioned by Grand-Am, the series will run 10 races in 2009, at Homestead-Miami Speedway (double-header event, March 14-15), Barber Motorsports Park (double-header event, April 18-19), New Jersey Motorsports Park (May 3), Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (May 16), Mosport International Raceway (June 14), Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (June 21), Autobahn Country Club (June 26) and Miller Motorsports Park (Sept. 20).

OPEN TRACK DAY:

What is an Open Track Day? An Open Track Day is an opportunity for enthusiasts to drive their personal street car on the track under controlled conditions in a safe environment. They are designed to allow anyone, regardless of experience, access to the track. The day is set up with some basic rules to allow each participant to enjoy the track time at their own speed and experience level. Each first-time attendee must go through the Track Orientation, Rider/Driver Evaluation (TORDE), which is a half-day classroom session plus a ride-along with an instructor. Once you have completed your TORDE, you are able to drive on the track. Open Track Days are sold in half- and full-day segments. For more information, contact the MMP Competition Department at (435) 277-8011.

How much does an Open Track Day cost? For first-timers, the TORDE program costs $275 (which includes a half-day of track time). For cars, the cost is $175 for a half-day and $275 for a full day. For motorcycles, a half-day is $120 and a full day is $190.

What kinds of cars are eligible for Open Track Day? All street-legal cars with a hard top are eligible. All convertibles must have roll-over protection, either a factory deployable system or a roll bar with a minimum of 4 mounting points. Race cars with either a NASA or SCCA log book are also accepted. There will generally be three run groups: motorcycles, street cars and race-prepared cars. The run groups will sometimes change depending on attendance.

Do I have to have a helmet and driving suit for an Open Track Day? An M2000, SA 2000 or newer helmet is required. Open-face helmets are allowed. Long pants, a long-sleeve shirt and closed-toe shoes are required. Gloves and driving suits are not required.

KART TRACK

How much does it cost to do karting?  Regular concession karting experiences range from $22.50 for 10 min to $55 for 1/2 hr and $100 for an hour of high-speed action. If you have your own kart and join our karting club, you pay only $25 for a day of track use ($35 for non-club member). For more information, contact the Miller Kart Track at (435) 277-8575. During the summer months, we offer a special "5 for $5" promotion on Wednesday evenings, during which you can drive five laps for only $5. For 2009, we are also offering a corporate karting league program.
